Our Classes
Bikram’s Beginner’s Yoga Class is a demanding series of 26 postures (asanas) and two breathing exercises (pranayamas).
The class is suitable for ages 18 and older. Even though the “beginning postures” are
physically demanding, students at all levels of practice will be able to perform
them to some degree. One does not “exercise” yoga postures, one “feels” postures,
and that is how the full benefits are obtained. Bikram Yoga rooms are hot
by design to allow increased flexibility.
Our Teachers
Our teachers have attended a rigorous training program of 500+
hours at Bikram Choudhury’s College of India in Los Angeles, and have
been certified as instructors by Bikram personally. Bikram yoga teachers
emphasize performing each posture correctly, while maintaining the degree
of safety. You’ll learn the ideal pose and how to eventually achieve
it. The sequence of the postures is critical because each
new pose is a preparation for the next. Plus, each next pose is a counter
pose for
the previous one. For example, the counter pose for a powerful
forward bend is a gentle back bend. The reason for this is to return the
body
to its normal condition.
Our Method
Bikram Yoga is a perfect combination of dynamic practice and static practice.
By dynamic we mean moving in and out of asanas in rhythm with your breath.
By static we mean holding the pose for a certain number of breath cycles.
So, this way you are getting the best of both worlds.
Attitude
Be prepared to work, make demands upon yourself and to sweat.
But remember to do it step-by-step. Each step can be enjoyable, tailored
to the reality of your current level of practice.
So it’s best to enjoy each step. It’s yoga, so don’t rush it, don’t compete with yourself or others.
Move at your pace and listen to your body. It’s not the destination, but the journey that’s
important.
Preparation
Please drink a lot of water during the 24 hours before class,
as it’s very important for
helping you tolerate the heat. Come to class on an empty stomach.
